MetaFlex Servo Couplings by Rota Free / Compomac

Metaflex is an innovative coupling intended for high-performance applications that require accurate positioning and motion & synchronization control at high speed. The coupling is assembled with 2 aluminum clamping hubs and thin-walled stainless steel below, which remains rigid under torsional load. It compensates for the axial, radial, and angular misalignments within the connecting shafts due to zero backlash. This is the main advantage of Metaflex servo couplings due to higher torsional stiffness, the key factor for the precision in positioning. A higher torsional stiffness means more accuracy in motion transmission from the motor to the driven component.

Installation

During the installation, be sure that the coupling is axially relaxed while tightening the screw of the second hub. Clean and degrease the contact surfaces on the shafts and couplings’ bores, and tighten the retaining screws with a torque wrench.

Misalignments

Accurate alignments improve transmission lifetime and ensure the lack of noise. In some applications, the maximum misalignment percentage cannot exceed 100%.

For example

• Metalflex size 40 maximum catalogue misalignments: D Radial = 0,15 mm, D Axial = 0,6 mm, D Angular = 2° 

• Misalignments required for the installation: D Radial = 0,05 mm (33%), D Axial = 0,1 mm (16%), D Angular = 0,5° (25%) 

•  Metaflex 40 is suitable for the application because (33+16+25)% = 74%, less than 100%.
