Ramp and Roller Clutches
Ramp and roller clutches are similar to sprag clutches in terms of performance, but they differ in their internal mechanism. The roller moves along the ramp in one direction and wedges between the input and output. In the opposite direction, the roller disconnects the input and the output by moving back on the ramp into an open space.
The ramp and roller clutch can provide overrunning functions, braking mechanisms, backstopping, and indexing functions.
