Malmedie Antriebstechnik GmbH, based in Solingen, Germany, is a renowned manufacturer and distributor of high-quality gear couplings, drum couplings, and safety couplings. With a strong focus on industries such as steel, crane, mining, and heavy equipment applications, the company has established itself as a leader in coupling technology. Boasting a significant export business, which constitutes approximately 65% of its product sales, Malmedie has successfully made its mark in both national and international markets.

About Malmedie

Malmedie's journey dates back to September 15, 1873, when Johann Josef Malmedie and Karl August Schmitz founded the "Malmedie & Cie. Maschinenfabrik." Initially located in Düsseldorf-Oberbilk, the company focused on producing cold molding presses and wire drawing machines. With a small team of 25 employees, they laid the foundation for what would eventually become a pioneering force in coupling technology.

By 1923, Malmedie had grown significantly, employing 1,200 individuals and diversifying its product portfolio to include machines for wire processing and draw benches for steel bars and pipes. Notably, in 1926, the company commenced coupling production under a license obtained from the British Bibby-Coupling, marking a crucial turning point in its history.

Following the destruction of its office and manufacturing buildings during World War II, Malmedie faced the daunting task of rebuilding. However, by 1947, the company had made significant progress in reconstructing its facilities, allowing it to resume operations.

As the years progressed, Malmedie solidified its position as an industry leader. In 1972, the company became part of the Rheinmetall group, further bolstering its capabilities and expanding its market reach. The workforce surpassed 500 employees, and Malmedie's product offerings expanded to include transfer presses, fully automatic machines for massive forming, ball and roll presses, and cutting-edge mechanical couplings for power transmission applications.

With a remarkable portfolio of over 30 national and international patents and patent applications by 2017, Malmedie cemented its reputation as one of the most innovative companies in the field of coupling technology. By focusing on the specific needs of industries such as steel, crane, mining, and heavy equipment applications, the company continues to deliver reliable and high-performance coupling solutions to customers worldwide.

Malmedie Products

When it comes to reliable and high-quality couplings, Malmedie GmbH stands out as a leading manufacturer in the industry. With a strong focus on innovation and precision engineering, Malmedie GmbH offers a wide range of products, including gear couplings, drum couplings, safety couplings, and SOS snag overload systems.

Gear Couplings

Gear couplings manufactured by Malmedie GmbH are designed to provide efficient power transmission between two rotating shafts. These couplings utilize gear teeth to transmit torque, ensuring precise and reliable operation. The gear couplings offered by Malmedie GmbH are engineered to handle high loads, resist misalignment, and accommodate angular and axial displacements. This makes them ideal for demanding applications such as industrial machinery, pumps, and compressors.

Drum Couplings

Drum couplings manufactured by Malmedie GmbH are designed to provide flexible power transmission while accommodating misalignments between shafts. These couplings consist of two half-couplings that interlock with curved jaw elements, allowing for axial, angular, and parallel shaft displacements. Drum couplings are commonly used in applications where flexibility and shock absorption are essential, such as pumps, mixers, and conveyors.

Safety Couplings

Safety couplings play a crucial role in preventing damage to machinery and ensuring the safety of personnel in case of overloads or sudden stops. Malmedie GmbH offers a range of safety couplings designed to disengage or slip when a preset torque limit is exceeded, thus protecting the connected equipment from damage. These couplings are widely used in applications where the risk of torque overload is high, such as power transmission systems in industrial settings.

SOS Snag Overload Systems

SOS (Snag Overload Systems) offered by Malmedie GmbH are advanced mechanical overload protection devices designed to safeguard drivetrains from sudden overloads and shocks. These systems consist of mechanical elements that disengage in case of overload, preventing damage to connected machinery. SOS systems are particularly suitable for applications where sudden stops, high torque variations, or emergency situations may occur, such as heavy machinery, cranes, and wind turbines.

From its humble beginnings in 1873 to its present-day status as a global leader, Malmedie Antriebstechnik GmbH has consistently demonstrated a pioneering spirit, adaptability, and commitment to excellence. With a rich history spanning over a century, Malmedie continues to shape the industry through its dedication to innovation and its ability to provide cutting-edge coupling solutions that meet the evolving needs of diverse sectors around the world
