KTR RUFLEX Torque Limiters with Sprocket
We offer 5-1,600 Nm RUFLEX Torque Limiters with integrated sprockets that provide for load-holding, frictionally engaged overload protection. The drive element slips when the set torque is surpassed. Once the occurring torque reduces, the torque limiter automatically continues to transmit torque.
How to select a Torque Limiter?
For an accurate selection of the torque limiters/safety couplings latest modeling and calculation programs are available. To make sure the torque limiter is not discharged with process-related torque summit, the shifting torque of the coupling should exceed the maximum operating torque by at least 30%.
Torque limiters and overload systems that re-engage automatically should be only used with reduced speed with high-release torques. Frequent or longer slipping or engaging increases the wear of the torque limiter.
After the torque limiter has disengaged the driving and driven sides during an overload, it may take some time for the drive to come to a complete stop due to significant mass inertia in the drive train. This prolonged coasting may lead to premature wear of the torque limiters and overload couplings designed to re-engage automatically.
To address this issue, we recommend using the safety coupling KTR-SI as an idle rotation version for drives with large mass inertia or higher speeds. By using the KTR-SI as an idle rotation version, the system allows for smoother and controlled disengagement, reducing the wear on the torque limiters and overload couplings, and ultimately enhancing the longevity and reliability of the drive system.
