Roller Type Torque Limiters

Roller-type torque limiters transmit high torques even though they have small compact dimensions. Roller-type torque limiters are designed to suit operation in dry or oil environments and synchronize input to output on re-engagement. They transmit torque and limit equally well in both directions. Axial movement on overload can be detected with a limit switch to give a warning signal.

In operation, torque is transmitted by several rollers that sit in grooves and are spring-loaded. On overload, the rollers rise out of the grooves, and the transmitted torque falls to a low level. The limiter will try to re-engage once every revolution once the overload is removed.
